Bodies ⁞⁞ Series Spotlight

Based on a graphic novel series, the Netflix limited series Bodies is a time-bending crime drama that follows four detectives in four vastly different time periods in England, as they all investigate the same murder case after the same dead body appears out of nowhere in a London alleyway. The mystery playing out in the 1890s is investigated by Detective Inspector Alfred Hillinghead (played by Kyle Soller) who comes upon the body at nearly the same time as photojournalist Henry Ashe (played by George Parker). Believing his photos will help the investigation, Alfred ends up enlisting Henry's assistance, despite discovering his homosexuality, which at the time was a major crime. It isn't long before the two men are engaged in a clandestine affair while attempting to unravel the mystery. This puts Alfred into conflict with his colleagues and his family, as he's married with a daughter who is the target of the show's main villain Mannix. Alfred is blackmailed into agreeing to frame Henry for the crime, but he ultimately refuses. Alfred convinces Henry to flee town and then confesses to the crime himself in an effort to spare Henry from the police and spare his family the truth of his own sexuality. Mannix later kills Alfred after confessing his scheme to him. However, after the time-spanning mystery is solved and Mannix is stopped, time is reset and the characters are returned to where they were before the mystery body ever appeared. In the finale, Alfred & Henry still share a chance encounter on the street hinting that their fates will once again connect.
