9-1-1 (7x4) ⁞⁞ Episode Spotlight

Episode 4 of the seventh season of the first responder drama 9-1-1 featured some major character development for firefighter Evan 'Buck' Buckley (Oliver Stark). He began the episode hanging out at the helicopter hangar utilized by the fire rescue team with pilot Tommy Kinard (Lou Ferrigno Jr.), after their recent adventure, rescuing civilians and Buck's squad captain from a cruise ship disaster. Tommy wondered if Buck was looking to join him in the sky, but Buck told him he was interested because, in spite of the emergency, he found the whole thing very fun. He shared anecdotes with Tommy about his dating history, including one that started when he responded to a helicopter crash. The two joked about dating rescue victims being a bad idea. Tommy shared with Buck that he was a pilot in the army and Buck realized it was something he had in common with his best friend and teammate Eddie. Tommy offered to give him flight lessons and Buck offered to buy him a beer. Tommy then revealed he was unfortunately busy. Eddie (Ryan Guzman) arrived, revealing he had plans with Tommy to go to a boxing match. Buck was immediately jealous as the two went off together in a helicopter.

Later, Buck & Eddie discussed how much fun Eddie had with Tommy and their growing friendship, which had Buck worried. He asked when they were hanging out again and Eddie told him they were going bar hopping. He asked if Buck was available and Buck perked up, revealing he was free that night. Eddie then asked if he would babysit his son Christopher, then. Buck agreed, but was disappointed in being left out again. Buck later learned the two would be playing basketball together and despite his lack of interest in the sport, he grabbed a ball and recruited their teammate Chimney (Kenneth Choi) to be his partner. Seeing Tommy & Eddie's camaraderie on the court caused Buck to become more aggressive, leading to Eddie being injured. This left Buck feeling horrible. Days later, he sought advice from his sister Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), telling her that he hadn't even checked on Eddie because he figured he was furious with him. Maddie relayed a story to convince him to be an adult and talk about his feelings of jealousy to make things right. Before he could, he got a visit from Tommy, who apologized for coming between the friends, remarking that it wasn't his intention. Buck told him that it was his jealousy, not Tommy's friendship that was the problem. Tommy assured him that he never wanted to replace him. Tommy revealed that he saw how close Buck's squad was and wanted to be part of that. Tommy was the jealous one. Buck then revealed how impressed he was with Tommy and how he called for the tour because he wanted to get to know him. He told Tommy that trying to get his attention has been exhausting. Tommy then surprised him with a kiss. They agreed it was good. Tommy then asked him on a date, which Buck agreed to. Tommy left for work, but not before reminding Buck to call Eddie to straighten things out.
