Doctor Climax (Ep. 1x6, 1x7) ⁞⁞ Episode Spotlight

The Thai Netflix series Doctor Climax follows Nat (Chantavit Dhanasevi), a mild-mannered doctor who begins moonlighting as a sex advice columnist during a sexually taboo time in 1970's Thailand. Each episode found Nat tackling a new column where he attempted to help someone in need of sex education. Episode 6 saw Doctor Nat receiving a letter from Sangjaan (Awat Ratanapintha), a closeted young man struggling with his homosexuality and his growing romance with his secret boyfriend (Paopoom Chiwarak). He details his story and his dilemma to "Doctor Climax," hoping for some advice on what to do. The occasion led to deep contemplation on Nat's part, as he was reminded of his history with his own father whose homosexuality was exposed when he was a child, leading to his separation from Nat's outraged mother, straining his relationship with his father. With his own baggage weighing on him, Doctor Nat looked to help Sangjaan, advising him to follow his heart and come out. Sangjaan took the advice, boldly kissing his love during his own birthday party, attended by family and friends. This led him to be brutally beaten by his father, rejected by his secret love, and ultimately living out on the street in fear and shame. Nat received a reply from Sangjaan, explaining the terrible outcome, leaving Nan more conflicted. He was shocked when an angry Sangjaan later arrived at the newspaper office, looking to confront Doctor Climax, blaming him for the destruction of his life.

This led to a very public confrontation, where Sangjaan explained what happened to him because he trusted the columnist. He pulled a gun, attempting to kill himself in front of a growing crowd. Nat sprang into action, stopping Sangjaan, as the gun went off. Sangjaan regained the gun and threatened suicide once again, until Nat's colleague, and secret lover, Linda stepped in, convincing him not to give up and to keep fighting for the world to see his true self. Sangjaan broke down, only to then be attacked by bystanders, as Linda attempted to protect him and Nat looked on in shock. It was then revealed that the stray bullet had struck Nat's young colleague Permpol (Tonhon Tantivjakul), who was bleeding badly as rain fell on everyone. Episode 7 saw Nat facing the suspension of his column. The fallout from the shooting led him back to his own gay father (Prachitpon Tangsritrakul), who he found living with his younger caretaker Phun (Grisana Punpeng). Father and son looked to make amends for their past estrangement. His father reminded him to confront the truth of who he is on the inside and follow his heart, mirroring Nat's own advice. Upon discovering that Phun and his father were lovers, Nat was finally able to come to terms with his father's sexual identity. Meanwhile, Sangjaan was placed in prison for the shooting, despite the accident. With help from a recovered Permpol, Nat helped get Sangjaan released from jail, apologizing to him for not handling his request for help with more care. Nat found his eyes opened to the homophobia happening in Bangkok, and even set his mother straight, as she feared his father's homosexuality would pass on to him.
