Jazz for Two ⁞⁞ BL Spotlight

Based on a manga, the South Korean romantic drama Jazz for Two presents a more traditional BL story, highlighting star-crossed love at the Wooyeon Arts School, incorporating music into an emotional narrative centered around high school students Tae Yi and Se Heon.

On the surface, Tae Yi (Ji Ho-Geun) is an unmotivated slacker with little drive when it comes to his education. Beneath all that, he remains shaken by the death of his older brother Tae Joon (Byeon Sung-Tae), who was a promising jazz pianist at the school before his suicide a few years ago. Meanwhile, Se Heon (Jin Kwon Kim) is busy hiding his own love of jazz from his controlling father, who exerts constant pressure on him to become a great classical pianist, like his older prodigy brother Se Jin (Ko Jae-hyun). After a year of being homeschooled under his father's rule, Se Heon gets the chance to attend the arts school. Feeling isolated, he takes refuge in a music room in a deserted building on campus, using the piano to express his love of jazz. When Tae Yi hears the music, he is instantly reminded of his brother, causing him to lash out at Se Heon, finding him in his brother's favorite spot, playing the same piano. At first he warns Se Heon to never return to that place again, but after the two are paired for a music evaluation, things start to change. Tae Yi begins to work through his grief, while Se Heon finds an outlet for his passion. With chemistry rising between them, school bully Joo Ha (Kim Jung-Ha) looks to get under Tae Yi's skin due to his sister's crush on him. He shows an interest in Se Heon, beyond the music, which only serves to push the two together, as Tae Yi warns Se Heon about Joo Ha, leading him to push the bully away. When Joo Ha gets aggressive, Tae Yi's happy-go-lucky friend Do Yoon (Song Han-gyeom) steps in leading him to be attacked by Joo Ha instead after he plants a kiss on him.

As sparks fly between Tae Yi & Se Heon, they begin supporting each other through their trials. Se Heon watches over Tae Yi after he experiences an emotional collapse and Tae Yi comes to Se Heon's rescue in the rain after he suffers physical abuse from his father and runs away. Do Yoon recruits the boys to join him on stage for a music festival hosted by the school and Tae Yi finds himself able to finally play his horn again and even joins Se Heon at the piano, bringing them closer. But the trio needs an original song for the festival, and their attempts at writing fall flat until Se Heon finds sheet music in his brother's old belongings, including the title song. When he later hears Tae Yi playing the tune on the piano, he is left confused when Tae Yi reveals it was a song his brother wrote and played for him. Se Heon looks to discover the connection between his brother Se Jin and Tae Yi's deceased brother, leading to a shocking revelation. Se Jin confesses to Se Heon that Tae Yi's brother Tae Joon was his friend when they were both students at the school. They bonded over music and in an odd twist of fate, sparks flew between them but when Tae Joon attempted a kiss, Se Jin pulled away and began ignoring him. This led to a heart-breaking confrontation that would be a catalyst for Tae Joon's suicide. Se Heon is left stunned and immediately cuts off his relationship with Tae-Yi, fearing he will learn the truth.

Se Heon skips school and ignores his communication, leading Tae Yi to worry until Se Jin tells him the truth about his past with his brother. Tae Yi goes to Se Heon, assuring him that it doesn't impact his feelings for him. After a successful jazz performance, the boys get their happy ending. Do Yoon is able to come to terms with his secret crush on Joo Ha as well, after Joo Ha experiences his own transformation, which leaves him longing for Do Yoon's friendship. They find themselves also bonding over music, as Joo Ha makes amends with Se Heon & Tae Yi and joins them to perform at the music festival.
