Doctor Odyssey (1x17-1x18) ⁞⁞ Episode Spotlight

The medical drama Doctor Odyssey brought its first season to a close with a two-part episode that saw the crew of the cruise ship Odyssey welcoming a large number of guests for their themed wedding week. Episode 17 saw multiple couples arriving on the ship. Looking to escape his own relationship drama, leading man Max (Joshua Jackson) joined a hiking excursion with guests. He quickly made the acquaintance of Barry (Jim O'Heir), a cruise guest who makes a connection with Max after learning that Max is the ship's doctor. Barry reveals that he is a coroner. Barry also revealed that he was on the hiking tour to give his fiancé some quiet time for a spa day back on the ship. When another member of the hiking group suffers a leg injury, the cheerful Barry offers assistance to Max in handling the situation. More trouble arises when an earthquake leads to a tsunami, putting everyone on their island in danger as they attempt to get the injured guest back to the ship, until time runs out and the ship is forced to leave them behind. Back on the ship, Barry's fiancé Matt (Jonathan Bennett) assists with injuries after the ship gets caught up in the tsunami, given his job as a psychiatrist, after he reveals he was still required to graduate from medical school, despite not being a medical doctor. 

Max's colleague, and love interest, Avery (Phillipa Soo) enlists Matt's help with a delicate surgical procedure, given the lack of available medical staff on the ship. This bonds the two. Back on the island, aftershocks strike, putting Max & Barry in danger after they take refuge in a small church with an injured local. Episode 18 finds things settling down on the ship, allowing Avery to head up a rescue team to get onto the island to find Max and the missing guests. Matt is by her side, worried for Barry's safety, and unaware that Barry has collapsed. They find the church, where Max is keeping Barry alive by himself. He & Avery prepare for a procedure to relieve pressure on Barry's brain, as Matt panics for his love's life. Avery calms him before helping Max to stabilize Barry, by relieving the pressure on his brain using a power drill. Barry & Matt are reunited and return to the ship with their fellow guests and the medical team. The finale ends with the captain performing the group wedding ceremony on the island, with Barry & Matt shown exchanging rings with the other couples. In addition to out actor Jonathan Bennett guest starring, out recurring actor Rick Cosnett also appeared as Odyssey crew member Corey.
