Trapped in Osaka ⁞⁞ BL Spotlight

Trapped in Osaka is a BL miniseries from China. The series follows Chen Xi (Qin Jia Lin), a man wallowing in lost love, feeling he has nothing left to live for when he gets a visit from Hao Yu (Wang Zi Hang), a young man working for a mobster who wants to collect on a loan debt that Chen Xi owes him. He finds Chen Xi nonchalantly smoking and drinking, with no urgency to pay back the money he owes. Looking to please his boss and show dominance, Hao Yu threatens Chen Xi with a knife, but he responds by cutting himself with a broken bottle. The sight of his blood causes Hao Yu to pass out. He wakes up to find Chen Xi sitting on top of him, curious about what kind of hitman he could be, given his less-than-dangerous demeanor. Hao Yu attempts to regain control of the situation, telling Chen Xi that he will not leave him until the money is repaid. Chen Xi then begins flirting with his visitor, wondering what may be hiding in his soul. Hao Yu rebukes his flirtation, telling him that he is straight.

With days passing, Chen Xi begins to spiral emotionally. Hao Yu prevents him from attempting to drown himself in the ocean, claiming he will follow and is unable to swim. Chen Xi pulls him from the water, only for Hao Yu to reveal he can actually swim. This leads to the two frolicking on the beach. Chen Xi opens up to Hao Yu, explaining that he fell into debt because he was paying for medical treatment for his partner's illness. He then revealed that the money ended up wasted because the treatment did not work and his partner disappeared, leaving him behind. Hao Yu offers him comfort, which Chen Xi hopes will translate into romance. They are interrupted by a call from Hao Yu's boss, causing Chen Xi to leave. Hao Yu evades his boss's call which leads to him getting a visit from the mobster, who attacks, leaving him battered and bloody for his disobedience. Chen Xi returns, finding Hao Yu beaten. Each of them reveals that they would do anything to protect the other. The miniseries ends with a shower love scene, as Chen Xi's narration reveals that he's found something to live for, because Hao Yu may need his protection going forward.

Trapped in Osaka presents a more traditional BL story, featuring one pair of male star-crossed lovers building a relationship over multiple episodes, ultimately culminating in a love connection. While China has currently enacted a ban on BL productions, this series was filmed completely in Japan.
