Heartbreak High - Season 3 ⁞⁞ Series Spotlight
Netflix released the third and final season of the Australian teen drama Heartbreak High. With their final school semester in progress, the Hartley gang was looking forward to graduation and leaving high school behind when a prank attack from their all-boys school rivals left the trouble-making teens looking for revenge. The asexual Ca$h (Will McDonald) and nonbinary Darren (James Majoos) continued their queer romance, now solidified as a couple. Ca$h comforted Darren in the wake of the prank, but was forced to skip out on the carnival where the teens planned to enact their revenge prank. As for the bisexual Malakai (Thomas Weatherall), he returned to town just in time for the festivities, and was drawn in by leading lady Amerie's charms once again, despite their previous break-up and her being currently involved with the guy behind the prank against Hartley. When their revenge prank goes wrong, Malakai is left with an injured arm and the rest of the gang are left with a major secret that they must protect in the wake of a carnival employee being left hospitalized when the prank went wrong. Of course, they filled the missing Ca$h in on what happened, allowing him to provide advice, given his own criminal history.
In addition to evading the law, Darren also set their sights on the future, specifically their dreams of getting into acting. Ca$h proved to be a loyal partner in encouraging Darren's dreams. Darren even buried the hatchet with former antagonist Spider (Bryn Chapman Parish) to work on an acting performance for the upcoming school Arts Showcase. But when Darren takes part in a workshop with one of their acting idols, they are left crushed by poor feedback about their acting choices. Ca$h juggles his time supporting Darren, with his new job working as a bartender and also a budding friendship with Malakai, as the two got closer after Malakai's return and injury. Ca$h helped convince Darren not to give up on their acting passion and it wasn't long before the roles were reversed as Darren comforted Ca$h upon the passing of his beloved duck Darude. This got Ca$h thinking more seriously about his future and those he cares about most. Ca$h threw himself into his art as a tribute to Darude, gaining himself a spot at the Arts Showcase, where Darren was able to find his voice again on stage with a celebrated performance.
When Malakai's guilt over the carnival prank became too much, he confessed, causing the Hartley gang (minus Ca$h) to be arrested and forced to repeat their semester, meaning no graduation. With the rest of the group turning on Malakai for confessing, Ca$h stepped up to support him, despite Darren's annoyance. When Darren made plans to leave Australia behind for the bright lights of New York to follow their acting dreams in America, Ca$h was onboard until another scare made him rethink the plan, as he decided to stay behind to keep an eye on his aging grandmother. Darren made the immediate decision to stay with him instead of leaving the country, despite his dream. The couple celebrated the end of the semester with the annual Schoolies beach event along with their friends. This led to a revelation about the true culprit behind the prank, allowing the teens to be reinstated at school, leading to a special impromptu sendoff for the gang from their principal Woodsy and favorite teacher Ms. Obah. Ca$h convinced Darren to chase his dream and leave town without him, only for his grandmother to later convince Ca$h to embrace his future and his love. The series ended with Ca$h heading off to join Darren in New York.
