Blood-Red Ox is a homoerotic psychological horror film from
Bolivian filmmaker
Rodrigo Bellott. It tells the story of gay couple Amir
& Amat who are invited on a trip to a Bolivian rain forest. Their secluded
romantic getaway soon turns dark as Amat (played by
Kaolin Bass) begins to experience terrifying visions of a giant humanoid ox. As Amir
(played by
Mazin Akar) tries to break Amat from his seeming paranoia, Amir begins to lose trust in
the world around him and his own sanity. Then, Amro (played by
Julián Mercado) appears halfway through the film, confusing Amir with his apparent appearance
as Amir's real boyfriend while Amir's mind breaks down, putting him in the place
of Amat as he also falls prey to the terrifying visions that crash into his
reality.
