Good Grief ⁞⁞ Movie Spotlight
Written and directed by the film's star Dan Levy, Good Grief is an emotional comedy focused on Marcus (Levy), an artist whose world shatters when his successful husband Oliver (Luke Evans) dies unexpectedly. While Marcus works to pick up the pieces of his now-single life, he discovers that Oliver was preparing to tell him about a secret part of his life that he was living in Paris, seemingly with another man. After being prompted by his lawyer to sell the Paris property Oliver owned, Marcus decides to take his closest friends Sophie and Thomas (Himesh Patel) on a getaway to Paris so that he can see the life Oliver was living when away from him. This sets the trio off on a journey that forces all of them to confront the hard truths that they've been avoiding in their lives. For Thomas, it's his inability to truly move on from his past failed relationship with Oliver. Marcus also finds himself the object of interest for Theo (Arnaud Valois), a Parisian man that he meets by chance, helping him to come to terms with his feelings and look forward. Marcus is also confronted with the loose threads of Oliver's life in Paris, in the form of Luca (Mehdi Baki), who shows up at Oliver's apartment while Marcus and his friends are there. Oliver faces the truth of their relationship as Luca sets the record straight and in the end, Marcus embraces his art to express his feelings, his loss, and his hopefulness.
