The Ark (Ep. 2x12) ⁞⁞ Episode Spotlight

The Season 2 finale of the sci-fi drama The Ark provided the climax for the season-long storyline of the show's gay character, lead security officer Felix Strickland (Pavle Jerinić). Felix began the season mourning the death of his husband after finding out that he had died after leaving Earth on a different Ark than Ark One where Felix is stationed. Felix also worried that his daughter may have also perished, given that she was unaccounted for. Episode 11 featured Felix getting a cryptic message about his daughter being alive. The sender attempted to blackmail him into killing Ark One's scientific genius Mr. Trust (Paul Leonard Murray) in order to get his daughter back. Felix turned the tables on his blackmailer, filling in the crew on the plot he was faced with. This led to him staging Trust's death, along with his own, for the benefit of the blackmailer. The Episode 12 finale began with the crew of Ark One preparing to arrive at the planet Trappist, the place where the Arks were all ultimately supposed to rendezvous given the planet's similarity to Earth. Felix & Trust met with the rest of the crew, as they discussed the blackmailer's signal having come from the planet, putting them on high alert. Captain Garnet (Christie Burke) instructed her team to handle contact with the planet as normal, hoping to get more answers as they believed recurring villain Evelyn Maddox (Jelena Stupljanin) might have been behind the plot given her long-held desire to kill Trust. Knowing her Ark had already arrived, they planned to keep up the ruse of Felix & Trust being dead, which didn't sit well with Felix, as he expressed a need to get down to the planet to find his daughter. He was ordered to stay behind, but as they arrived at Trappist, he ducked out while the crew marveled at seeing the planet.

Garnet took a shuttle down to the planet with pilot Brice (Richard Fleeshman), Ian (Reece Ritchie), Dr. Kabir (Shalini Peiris), and security officer Joma. They were unaware that Felix had stowed aboard. They left the shuttle behind to make contact, while Felix began his own mission, using his wrist scanner to try to track down his daughter Katheryn (Zoja Milosavljević). He made his way to a school, where he confronted a teacher. After knocking the man out to keep him from exposing him, Felix found a room where Katheryn was. He happily greeted his daughter, but she appeared to have no memory of him. This stunned Felix, as the teacher returned with guards, dragging him away as he called out for his daughter. Meanwhile, Ian spotted Maddox apparently injecting people with chips that caused them to become mind-controlled. He returned to the shuttle to find the crew all there, including Felix, which surprised him, but apparently not the others. They were all acting strangely happy about the colony, repeating a phrase that he heard from a mind-controlled colonist. They returned to Ark 1 and immediately began assimilating the crew into the mind-control until Ian stepped in, with help from other crew aboard the Ark, including Mr. Trust and Kelly, Maddox's cloned daughter, who was bent on stopping her villainous mother. Felix returned with the team to the planet, helping free the colonists. He went looking for Katheryn but couldn't find her anywhere. Maddox then revealed to him & Garnet that she had Katheryn aboard their shuttle and was fleeing. She warned them not to follow or risk Katheryn's life. Felix was left crushed. However, Maddox was unaware that Kelly (Samantha Glassner) was hidden aboard the shuttle. She confronted her mother, killing her, and rescuing Katheryn. She reunited the teary-eyed Felix with his daughter.

With everyone free of the mind control, the crews of all the Arks agreed to come together and create a governing council to help build order on Trappist. Captain Garnet declined the offer to be Ark One's representative on the council, choosing to take Ark One back out into space to locate the remaining missing Arks. She nominated Felix to represent Ark One on the planet, surprising him. She assured him he was qualified and she knew that he had a great reason to make Trappist a success, pointing to his daughter. Felix agreed and his crew congratulated him. Garnet prepared to leave with Ark One and half of its crew, but not before getting a sign-off message from Felix, Kabir, Trust and the other crew staying behind on the planet, wishing them luck on their mission.
