Agatha All Along ⁞⁞ Series Spotlight
The Marvel series Agatha All Along debuted on Disney+, picking up on the life of WandaVision villain Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) after the witch was left under the spell of Wanda Maximoff, living out her days in the small town of Westview, unaware of her true identity. The series begins with a mysterious young man (Joe Locke) coming to Westview with the express purpose of breaking Agatha free of the spell she's under. Once successful, "Teen" convinces Agatha to take him to the Witches Road, where he claims to seek power. With her own power stripped, Agatha takes the opportunity to gain back the power she's lost. She is also faced with an instant mystery, as she's unable to comprehend the boy's identity, thanks to a spell. The duo bring together a coven of witches, required to access the road. They meet Jen (Sasheer Zamata), Alice (Ali Ahn), and Lilia (Patti LuPone). Along the way, the two begin to form a real bond, despite their initial desire to use one another, and Agatha's thirst for power. They must also contend with the unpredictable Rio (Aubrey Plaza), who has her own agenda, which includes a vendetta to get Agatha's soul despite their romantic history. As the coven faces trials on various stages that test their individual abilities as witches, "Teen" appears along for the ride, befriending the women. But when a possessed Agatha sucks the power out of Alice, leaving her dead, the teen lashes out, revealing his own intense power. After it's turned on her, Agatha puts together the final piece to the mystery of his identity. "Teen" is revealed to be Billy Maximoff, Wanda's super-powered son.
Flashbacks reveal the life of teen William Kaplan several years earlier, when the destruction of Wanda's hex on the town of Westview caused his family in the neighboring town to have a fateful accident, seemingly leading to William's death. Billy's spirit then entered William's body, reviving him. This led to immediate confusion and questions as he tried to piece together his current existence along with the emerging memories of a past he didn't live. Assisted by his boyfriend Eddie (Miles Gutierrez-Riley), the only holder of his true identity, Billy set off on a path that ultimately led him to Agatha. With his identity revealed, Billy made it clear that he sought out Agatha's help to get him to the road in hopes that the end would grant him his heart's desire: his missing twin brother Tommy. The end of the witches road, however, would put Billy & Agatha on a crash course with Rio, who was revealed to be Death personified. After helping Billy mentally locate his brother's spirit and implant it in a new body, he was thrust off of the road. This left Agatha in a final showdown with Rio, until Billy returned, showing off all of his true powers, which he offered to Agatha to make her strong enough to fight. In the end, Agatha would sacrifice herself, as Rio demanded one of their souls to restore balance. Billy returned home, where he then realized the entire quest on the witches road had been conjured by him. Agatha's ghost looked to encourage his mystical talents, and the two ended the series joined together on a new quest to locate Tommy out in the world.
