The Four Seasons ⁞⁞ Series Spotlight
The Netflix series The Four Seasons is a remake of the 1981 film. It tells the story of three couples, long-standing friends, who embark on their joint vacations together each season. The series explores their relationships as they change over time. The new series features a major change from the original, with original characters Danny & Claudia becoming husbands Danny (Colman Domingo) and Claude (Marco Calvani), a gay couple. Danny is close friends with Kate (Tina Fey), while juggling his helicopter husband's constant worries over his health in the face of heart problems. Danny & Claude's loving relationship is on full display, along with their bickering over the differences in their personality, with Danny being more practical while Claude is more clingy and over the top in his attitude and concerns, which he blames on his Italian upbringing.
The couples find their dynamic changed when one couple, Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver) and Nick (Steve Carell), divorce and Nick embarks o a new romance with a much younger woman. Anne attempts a new romance with Terry (Toby Huss), leaving Claude & Danny with a minor mystery to solve as Claude believes he might have slept with the man decades before. Over the course of the series, the two battle over Danny's medical decisions, support their close friends whom they consider family, and indulge in some fun as they attempt a threesome while on vacation. This leads them to a self-proclaimed local lumberjack (Jacob Buckenmyer), whom they invite into the bedroom. Things get spicy until Claude discovers that Danny has been smoking, putting his health in jeopardy. Given Danny's work trips, away from him, Claude breaks down leading to a confrontation about the state of their marriage. The two experience drama, like their straight counterparts, but manage to work through their issues and find their happiness. In the end, the circle of friends are drawn even closer when one of them, Nick, unexpectedly dies. The series ends with them beginning to plan another major vacation together, in Nick's honor.
