The Boyfriend - Season 2 ⁞⁞ Reality TV Spotlight
Netflix's breakout reality dating series The Boyfriend returned for its second season, once again putting the spotlight on the love lives of gay men in Japan. Season 2 saw a total of nine queer men moving into a house together, where they live, work together on a coffee truck, and explore potential new romances. For Season 2, the series moved from its warm beach locale to a snowy winter setting, allowing the guys to take advantage of the season with several winter activities and keeping warm in the sauna. Again, their interactions and growing connections are observed by the show's returning panel of commentators, including singer, actor and Drag Queen Durian Lollobrigida. While the majority of the boys range in age between their 20s and 30s, the series welcome its first contestant over 40. The first episode introduced the initial seven housemates: Izaya, Bomi, Huwei, Jobu, William, Kazuyuki & Hiroya. In later episodes, the group is joined by Ryuki, Tomoaki, and Season 1's Taeheon who returns to give it another shot at finding love. The first episode also includes a few new twists, as it's revealed that Izaya & William have some previous dating history, outside of the house, informing their interactions while on the series. Bomi & Huwei also reveal how they crossed paths before joining the series as well.
