Twinless ⁞⁞ Movie Spotlight
Written and directed by James Sweeney, the dark comedy Twinless follows Roman (Dylan O'Brien), a man left crushed by the death of his gay identical twin Rocky. He joins a support group for people who have lost twins and there he meets the sullen Dennis (Sweeney). The unlikely duo hits it off and they become fast friends, as both search for solace and identity in the face of loss. As they become more inseparable, Dennis's feelings for Roman clearly deepen. Roman attempts to help Dennis with his love life, introducing him to his handsome co-worker Sammy (François Arnaud). At the same party, Roman crosses paths with Dennis's bubbly and empathetic co-worker Marcie (Aisling Franciosi) and finally finds someone he can confide in besides Dennis. While Sammy turns out to be uninterested in Dennis, Marcie & Roman make a genuine romantic connection.
With Dennis feeling like a third wheel, the truth of his past is revealed. Flashbacks show that Dennis actually met and fell in love with Roman's twin Rocky before his death. But despite the connection he felt with Rocky, and their sexual encounter, the feeling wasn't mutual. Dennis would later spot Rocky spending time with another man, George (Chris Perfetti), causing him to lash out. When he confronted Rocky on the street over his mistreatment, it led to Rocky getting hit by a car, killing him. Dennis attended Rocky's funeral in disguise, seeing the grieving Roman. This led Dennis to follow Roman to the support group, which he joined, lying about having a twin to get closer to him. When Marcie puts the pieces together, she confronts Dennis, demanding he tell Roman the truth. This leads to a confrontation that leaves their friendship fractured, putting both back to square one in their journeys to emotionally heal.
