The Boyfriend ⁞⁞ Reality TV Spotlight

Netflix's latest reality dating series The Boyfriend is a first of its kind, putting a spotlight on the love lives of gay men in Japan. The new series cast eight queer Japanese men to move into a beach house together, where they live, work together on a coffee truck, and look to find new love. Their interactions and growing relationships are observed by the show's panel of commentators, including another queer voice in singer, actor and renowned Drag Queen Durian Lollobrigida. Ranging in age between their 20s and 30s, the eight cast members come from a variety of different backgrounds, sharing their relationship experience, opening themselves up to new possibilities, and facing the challenges of having their secluded lives out of their control, all while looking to make a love connection. The first episode introduces the first six men: Dai, Shun, Gensei, Taeheon, Ryota & Kazuto. They are surprised at the end of Episode 1 when a visit to a night club reveals that exotic dancer Usak is joining them. Episode 3 sees the final cast member Alan arrive at the house, shaking things up with his charisma and openness with affection.
