Too Many Christmases ⁞⁞ Christmas 2024

Too Many Christmases
is a BET+ original movie. Newlyweds Kayla (Porscha Coleman) and Jerome (Denzel Whitaker) find their first Christmas together getting complicated when Kayla's brother LeeLee (DeShawn Bowens) surprises her by returning home for the holidays, which means her family's big Christmas dinner is back on the schedule, despite her plan to join Jerome's family for the holiday. This leads the couple to plan out a scheme to secretly attend both family Christmases simultaneously. While their plan runs into several complications on the big day, LeeLee deals with his own drama in the form of their preacher grandfather Davis (Willie C. Carpenter), who is unwilling to accept LeeLee's new look and queer identity, even banning him from performing his yearly church duet with his mother Regina (Valarie Pettiford). Regina demands her father accept LeeLee for who he is, while LeeLee refuses to be anything other than himself. Regina attempts to keep the peace for Christmas, getting the stubborn Davis to attend, despite his constant criticism of his grandson. Kayla ducks out to keep up her Christmas plan, as the family applauds LeeLee's musical success which led to a Grammy nomination. Davis, however, takes the opportunity to point out that he is proud of LeeLee's work, but not who he is. LeeLee storms out and his mother demands that Davis leave. When Davis quotes scripture to her, she reminds him of his past alcoholism and how that almost destroyed his family. She urges him to embrace family, not destroy it. Kayla apologizes to LeeLee for not being there for him. He then has a heart-to-heart with his grandfather, explaining who he is and how he hid it for years before discovering who he really was. The two talk through the root of Davis' conflict and come to an understanding based on love and acceptance. Kayla & Jerome's Christmas plot is exposed and both families come together to celebrate, with Davis reminding them all that sometimes things change and that can be a good thing. The film ends with LeeLee & his mother getting their church duet with the choir, after Davis welcomes his grandson.
