Cassandra ⁞⁞ Series Spotlight

The six-episode German Netflix series Cassandra follows the Prill family, who move to a new town where they take ownership of a 1970s smart home. The family includes parents Samira & David, their teenage son Fynn and young daughter Juno. The super smart out gay teen Fynn (Joshua Kantara) begins the story annoyed at his family's move, as he misses his friends and his band. However, he soon discovers the robot connected to the house's AI assistant Cassandra. While he doesn't seem to have any luck reactivating the robot, it soon comes to life, introducing itself as the family's new fairy godmother. With the exception of Samira, the Prill family gets onboard for Cassandra's constant help around the house. Fynn attends a new school where he quickly meets apparent slacker Steve (Filip Schnack), who becomes a fast friend after visiting the Prill house and meeting Cassandra (Lavinia Wilson). With a caress of Fynn's neck, he announces they are best friends, which peaks the gay teen's interest. The two teens begin to bond quickly, catching Cassandra's always-watching eyes. But when things take a potentially romantic turn, it leads to complications. Steve pulls away from Fynn publicly at school, leading him to get upset. They attempt to get past it but Steve's closeted status doesn't blend well with Fynn's open sense of self. A few stolen kisses at school later and Steve punches Fynn when another classmate appears. This throws a wrench in their budding romance but it's not long before Fynn gets a closer look into Steve's life. When he doesn't show up for school, Fynn ventures to his house, where he learns about Steve's not-so-attentive parents, which include a very angry father.

Steve's mother implies that Steve made a better choice to not be home, leaving Fynn scared. He would later connect with Steve, who showed him a shed where he stays when things are bad with his family. Steve shows off his own busted lip, revealing his father's physical abuse after Steve told his parents about his relationship with Fynn. Steve explained that he was inspired by how honest and open Fynn is with his own family. Back home, things take a dark turn as Cassandra looks to recreate the happy family from her past, which has no room for Samira (Mina Tander). After ensuring Samira is committed, Cassandra takes Fynn, David (Michael Klammer) & Juno hostage inside the house, where she looks to recreate her human past. Steve shows up at the house, looking to sleep over after another altercation with his father. Cassandra threatens Juno (Mary Tölle) to get coerce Fynn into getting rid of Steve, as she proclaims him not part of their family. Fynn lies about his father not being onboard with Steve staying, despite him telling Fynn he couldn't go home. Fynn tries to assure him that things will go back to normal once his mother is back. They share a Christmas kiss before Fynn is forced to send Steve away. Samira manages to return home in time to help her family escape Cassandra's ultimate breakdown, leading to a major explosion in the house.
